Area Information
Here's some links about Scottsville to get you familiar with the area right away:
Today, the town's Historic District boasts one of the largest collections of Greek Revival architecture in the entire United States. With its small town charm intact, Scottsville residents are still proud to say they don't have a stoplight or a fast food restaurant.

Yet, even with its reverence for the past, Scottsville has been experiencing a quiet renaissance. Many of its oldest buildings are being tastefully and carefully restored. Canal Basin Square, a new park dedicated to river travel history, has been completed and the Historic Scottsville Streetscape Project is in the planning stages. There are also numerous concerts, art shows and festivals throughout the year.
The scenic James River is a recreational focal point of the area. There's great boating and fishing plus tubing and other water activities. A local Farmers' Market hums with activity two days a week in the summer and offers plenty of produce, crafts and other goodies.
Fourth of July activities include a parade, antiques fair, flea market and a breathtaking fireworks display. Annual festivals include batteaux plying the river (the Batteau Festival), home-style cooking and historic re-enactments. There's also musical productions produced by Center for Arts and Nature in the old Victory Hall theater.
Musical events like the free summer concert series happen all year long. Even more shopping and cultural events can be found in nearby Charlottesville.
Also of local interest is the Levee Walk from Ferry Street to Bird Street. Dorrier Park also offers tennis courts, a playground plus soccer and softball fields. Area vineyards offer tours and wine tastings and the James River provides the setting for the annual Fishing Jamboree. Nearby Hatton Ferry, one of the last poled ferries in the country, offers yet another unique experience.
